Need parts made in high-strength structural steel or wear-resistant steel? We make finished parts to your drawing from SSAB grades, including Strenx® (formerly Weldox), SSAB Domex® and Hardox®. Everything is done under one roof in Shaw, Oldham: laser cutting on our 8kW Trumpf fibre laser, press braking up to 3.5m and 20mm, and MIG/TIG fabrication and assembly.
Across the SSAB range we make parts from 1–25mm thick, up to 3000 x 1500mm.
Everything we supply is made to order: brackets, chassis and trailer parts, lifting and plant parts, wear liners and fabrications, all cut, folded and welded to your requirements. We don’t sell sheet or plate. Send us a drawing and tell us the job the part has to do. We’ll suggest a grade and quote for the finished part.
Strenx® is SSAB’s high-strength structural steel, with yield strengths from 600 to 1300 MPa. In 2015 SSAB brought Weldox and Optim, along with the best of Domex® and Docol®, together under the Strenx® name. If your drawing still says Weldox 700 or Weldox 960, the current equivalents are Strenx® 700 and Strenx® 960, and we can work from either name. Strenx® lets you build lighter structures that stay strong, which is why it’s used in lifting, trailer and agricultural equipment.
Typical jobs: brackets, mounts and stiffeners, trailer and chassis members, crane and lifting parts, and agricultural and plant parts where you want to save weight. Parts from 1–25mm thick, up to 3000 x 1500mm.
SSAB Domex® is SSAB’s hot-rolled steel for cold forming, used for parts like trailer chassis, cranes and agricultural machinery. SSAB Laser® grades are made for laser cutting. SSAB guarantees their flatness at 3 mm/m or less both before and after cutting, and they bend to tight radii.
Typical jobs: accurate laser-cut and folded brackets, chassis members, frames, cross members and general structural parts. Parts from 1–25mm thick, up to 3000 x 1500mm.
Hardox® is SSAB’s hard, tough, abrasion-resistant steel. It’s used for parts that get worn down by rock, soil, sand and scrap. The number in the name (Hardox® 400, 450, 500) is the nominal Brinell hardness.
Typical jobs (made to order): wear liners and strips, bucket and attachment parts, cutting edges, hopper and chute liners, and tipper and trailer wear parts. Parts from 1–25mm thick, up to 3000 x 1500mm. Bigger liners can be split into sections.
We can also make parts on request in Docol® advanced high-strength steel (thin, strong pressed and folded parts), SSAB Weathering steel (unpainted outdoor parts that form a protective patina) and SSAB Zero™ lower-carbon grades such as Hardox® 450 made from SSAB Zero™, subject to availability. Armox® protection steel parts are also available on request.
These steels don’t behave like mild steel in the workshop, so we work to SSAB’s own processing guidance:
– Bending. High-strength and wear steels need bigger bend radii. For example, for Hardox® 450 plate between 8 and 20mm thick, SSAB recommends a minimum punch radius of 3.5 × thickness across the rolling direction and 4.5 × thickness along it. Strenx® and SSAB Domex® grades have their own guaranteed bending radii. Tell us the bend angles and radii you need and we’ll check them against SSAB’s data before we quote.
– Welding. SSAB says Hardox® 450 up to 25mm thick doesn’t need preheating, which covers our whole 1–25mm range. SSAB’s maximum interpass temperature is 225 °C for plate and 100 °C for 2–8mm sheet. Low-hydrogen consumables are recommended.
Email your drawing (DXF, DWG, STEP or PDF) to sales@kaizen-eng.com, or call 01706 847 172. Include the grade (Strenx®, Weldox, Domex®, Hardox® or other), the thickness, the part size (1–25mm thick, up to 3000 x 1500mm) and the quantity of finished parts. Not sure which grade you need? Tell us what the part has to do and we’ll recommend one.
