  • Hardox® Wear Parts for a National Energy-from-Waste Contract

Wet steel chute lined with bolted Hardox wear plates in a waste and energy-from-waste plant

Kaizen Engineering has supplied a national energy-from-waste (incinerator) contract with critical wear parts made in genuine Hardox® steel. The contract builds on our work in waste and recycling, where we have significantly increased part life for our customers using Hardox® wear plate.

Why energy-from-waste plants are hard on steel

Waste rarely arrives clean or dry. Mixed waste is heavy, abrasive and often wet, and it grinds, scrapes and batters chutes, hoppers, liners and handling equipment day after day. Parts made from ordinary steel can wear through quickly.

For a plant operator, that means parts wearing out sooner than expected, more unplanned stoppages and more time spent on maintenance. Choosing the right wear steel for the critical parts is one of the simplest ways to push back.

Why Hardox® wear plate?

SSAB describes Hardox® as “the leading abrasion-resistant steel – hard through and through, from surface to core.” According to SSAB, “Hardox® steel is commonly used in applications requiring high wear resistance, including buckets, dump truck bodies, crushers, hoppers, blades, and as wear plates in mining, construction, agriculture, and recycling equipment.”

That combination of hardness and toughness is what makes it a good fit for waste handling: liners and chute parts that resist abrasion, and parts tough enough to take impact from heavy, mixed material.

Cut, folded and fabricated in Shaw

We make Hardox® parts in genuine SSAB steel on one site in Shaw, Oldham: laser cut on our 8kW Trumpf fibre laser, folded on our CNC press brake and welded in our own fabrication shop. That gives customers one point of contact from quote to delivery, and we follow SSAB’s published processing guidance for wear steels.

What it means for waste, recycling and energy-from-waste operators

If your liners, chute and hopper parts, shredder and screen parts or wear strips are wearing out early, Hardox® parts are worth a look. We make everything from one-offs to volume, and we work with:

  • Large operators and contractors who need contract supply, repeat orders and parts batched around planned maintenance and shutdowns
  • Smaller firms who need a one-off, a small batch or an urgent breakdown replacement

We stock Hardox® wear plate and make finished parts only, not sheet or plate. See our recycling and wear parts page for the parts we make, or our SSAB steels page for the other grades we work with.

Send us your drawing

Email your drawing, or photos and dimensions of a worn part, to sales@kaizen-eng.com or call 01706 847 172. Tell us what the part handles and whether it runs wet or dry, and we’ll recommend the right Hardox® grade and thickness and quote the finished part. We supply customers across Oldham, Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield, and larger customers across the UK.
