Press Braking

Kaizen Engineering provides CNC press braking and sheet metal folding from our facility on Thomas Street, Shaw, Oldham. We fold components up to 4m wide and up to 20mm thick, from one-off prototypes through to high-volume production runs. Many of the parts we fold come straight from our 8kW Trumpf fibre laser, so you get cut and folded work from one supplier. Being just off the M62, we supply folded parts to customers across Oldham, Manchester and Greater Manchester, and over the Pennines into Yorkshire, including Leeds and Sheffield.

Press Brake Capacity

  • Process: CNC press braking (also known as pressing, bending or forming)
  • Length: components up to 4m wide
  • Thickness: up to 20mm
  • Volumes: one-off prototypes through to high-volume production runs
  • Upstream process: parts often arrive from our 8kW Trumpf fibre laser, already profiled and ready to fold

Press braking shapes a flat sheet or plate by introducing precise bends. Working from your drawing, we program the CNC press so each fold is consistent from the first part to the last, whether you need a handful of brackets or a scheduled production batch.

Why Choose CNC Press Braking?

Folding is often a cleaner, faster alternative to building the same shape from welded pieces. For buyers of sheet metal parts that means:

Fewer Welds, Less Distortion

A well-designed fold can replace several welded joints. That cuts welding time, reduces heat input into the part, and keeps edges and faces truer for assembly.

Consistent Batches

Once a part is programmed on the CNC press, the same bend sequence can be repeated reliably. That consistency matters when folded parts go on to welding, assembly or a painted finish.

Complex Profiles Without Dedicated Tooling for Every Job

CNC control lets us produce channels, angles, multi-bend profiles and brackets from flat sheet. Design changes are handled in the program rather than by cutting and welding new assemblies from scratch.

One Supplier from Flat Sheet to Finished Part

Because laser cutting and press braking sit next to each other in our Shaw works, laser-cut blanks move straight onto the press. You avoid shipping semi-finished parts between suppliers and keep lead times under one roof.

Cut, Fold, Fabricate and Assemble Under One Roof

Press braking is one step in a wider service. Many folded parts go straight on to our other departments:

  • Laser cutting: 8kW Trumpf fibre laser, plus a Trumpf CO2 machine for thicker plate; mild and stainless steel up to 25mm, aluminium up to 12mm
  • Steel fabrication: an 11,000 sq ft fabrication facility with MIG and TIG welding in mild and stainless steel
  • Assembly: finished assemblies, with no extra transport between processes

Press Braking for Oldham, Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield

We support large UK manufacturers on a just-in-time basis as well as smaller local businesses that need a short run of folded parts. Our Shaw site is ideally placed for customers in Oldham, Rochdale and the rest of Greater Manchester, and the M62 gives us a direct route into West and South Yorkshire for customers in Leeds and Sheffield, as well as Cheshire.

Press Braking FAQs

What size of part can you press brake?

We can press components up to 4m wide and up to 20mm thick. Send us your drawing if you’re unsure whether a particular profile will fit.

Do you take on one-off and prototype folding jobs?

Yes. We fold everything from single prototypes to high-volume production runs, with a fast turnaround where the job allows.

Can you laser cut the blanks before folding?

Yes. Many of the parts we fold are cut first on our 8kW Trumpf fibre laser, then moved straight onto the press. That keeps cut and fold under one roof and usually shortens lead time compared with using separate suppliers.

Which areas do you supply?

We’re based in Shaw, Oldham, just off the M62. We supply customers across Oldham, Manchester and Greater Manchester, and into Yorkshire, including Leeds and Sheffield, as well as Cheshire.

What do I need to send for a quote?

A drawing (DXF, DWG or PDF), plus the material, thickness, quantity and required delivery date. Send it to sales@kaizen-eng.com and we’ll come back to you with a price.

Can you weld and assemble the parts after folding?

Yes. We offer fabrication and assembly on site, so your parts can go from flat sheet to finished assembly with one supplier.
